Homeopathy: We tried it and it worked for us.

I know that there is much dispute over the effectiveness of homeopathic medicine, and I, too, was a bit skepical when other mothers were taking their children to homeopathic practioners for chronic ear infections and the like. However, with my own son, his anxiety at the beginning of 3rd grade was just too much. His pediatrician easily shrugged it off so we took the plunge and went to the local homeopath, 2 hours and $225 later we went home with a remedy. To our relief it was truly effective, my son become his calm self again and was able to do his school work without the earlier tears and frustration. What really surprised me, was when the homeopath changed his remedy and the effect that had. All of a sudden my calm, thoughtful child became easily angered and anxious even his teacher called and asked what was up. The homeopath quickly changed his remedy and he was back to himself again. Obviously homeopathic remedies had a strong effect on my son, I understand that his is not the case for everyone but it certainly worked for us.

Omega-3 Versus Omega-6

I just read the Wikipedia entry for omega- 3 and thought it was great information to pass on. I've been taking flax oil tablets which are high in omega 3 for about a year now, and most noticably I found that my skin was smoother and my hair was shinier.
My 10 year old son has been taking fish oil capsules for about two years and he says it helps him stay focus in school, especially are the hard subjects that he used to find imself easily distacted. But the Wikipedia article gave me a better idea of the difference in fish oil versus flax seed oil (I always thought that fish oil was better- but being vegetarian I went with flax seed but put my son on fish oil). In turns out that flax seed oil has 6 times more omega-3's than fish oil. More importantly it is the ratio of omega-3 to omega-6, a Western diet typically gets a ratio between 10:1 and 30:1, an ideal ratio is 3:1 to 5:1. Dietary sources of omegas-6 are whole grain cereals, eggs and poultry, nuts and baked goods instead of eating less omega-6 consume more omega-3.

A New Soap: Patchouli

Well we've done it, we've created a Patchouli Soap. Many of our soaps have patchouli essential oil in them. We love it's unique scent and it blends so well with other essential oils that you hardly know it is there. But our new Patchouli soap is for those who love patchouli. You might surprise yourself and fall in love with it's earthy scent, I know I did. Lisa created this scent and I reluctantly agreed. But surprise surprise it's my soap of choice right now. Our Patchouli soap is a mild blend ( yes, we almost always blend our essential oils) of rosewood and lavender oils, we add black tea leaves for color and texture and of course sweet almond oil to make it extra soft. Go ahead, give it a try!

Save energy easy

Last month I purchased a new front loader HE (high effecient) cloth washing. What a revelation, I never knew my clothes would get that clean and with such little water.
We then decided to only line dry our clothes, something in the past I only did on occasion.
After the first month of my enlightened way of life my gas and electric bill was 30% less. Yep, that's right I saved 30% on my bill just switching clothes washers and allowing the natural dryer to work. That was easy!
